HPV detecting assays

Researchers comparing the efficacy of popular tests to detect Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in malignant oral lesions have found that the HC II assay has better sensitivity than the PCR assay.
The team compared the efficacy of HC-II assay and PCR test for detection of specific HPV type (HPV 16 E6) in oral sub mucous fibrosis (OSMF) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cases. They also tried to find out the prevalence of the high risk HPV(HR-HPV) in malignant oral lesions.
HC-II assay and PCR were used for the detection of HR-HPV DNA.
The team found slight difference between the positivity rate of HR-HPV infection as well as the detection method by HC-II & PCR assay. The HC II assay seemed to have better sensitivity. However, the performance of both assays were found to be equivalent.
