Organic photodetector

A light detecting device made from polymer film has been found promising for use in smart flat panel displays, flexible image sensors and other optoelectronic devices.

Researchers have fabricated the device using polycarbazole film laid on indium tin oxide glass substrate containing aluminum. The device was tested with applied voltage in the dark and later exposed to a laser beam at 650 nm. Measurements were taken under varying applied voltages.

The device could yield a sensitive photodetector. "Polymer can be used to develop a device to detect visible light," says lead researcher P. Chakrabarti from the Department of Electronics Engineering, Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. This type of detector may find application in free space optical communication systems, he adds.
